My name is Alain — I'm your agent in Bali
Buying furniture from Bali with nobody on the ground means wiring money 12,000 km away and hoping for the best. My job is to make sure you never have to hope — because I check everything, for you, on site.
Who am I?
I have lived and worked in Bali for 40 years. Forty years of walking the island's workshops means forty years of sorting: I know exactly which local makers deserve your trust — and which ones to avoid. That network, built over decades, is the real value behind your order.
My job is to make your requirements stick, from the first enquiry until the container leaves. I inspect every piece before shipping so that the delivery matches exactly what you ordered, and I personally handle the link with the freight forwarder so nothing gets lost between the workshop and the ship.
I'm not alone: five of us follow your order. A dedicated quality controller, a carpenter — who looks at a joint with a craftsman's eye, not a salesman's — two office colleagues who deal with the workshops in their own language and keep you informed, and me overseeing it all. That team — not an email address — is what keeps your project intact from drawing to living room.
What my presence changes in practice
The full journey of an order is detailed in the 6 steps, from your idea to delivery. Within that journey, here are the four moments where being on the ground makes the difference.
- Workshop selection — I only work with makers I have visited and follow over time, never with a workshop found the day before. My criteria, workshop by workshop.
- Prices negotiated at the right level — you pay the local price I negotiate knowing the market, not the tourist rate.
- Systematic quality control — I inspect and photograph every piece before packing: wood species, drying, finish, dimensions. Exactly what I check.
- Export followed end to end — packing, full or shared container, export documents: nothing leaves without my sign-off.
Proof, rather than promises
I have already delivered private clients, villas and businesses in France, Reunion Island, the Caribbean, St Barts, Tahiti, Costa Rica, New York and Australia. Every documented project — workshop photos, container, delivery — is in our projects.
