Your questions, our answers

Having furniture made on the other side of the world raises good questions — here are frank answers to the most common ones. Missing one? Message us on WhatsApp and Alain will reply from Bali.

How much does furniture made in Bali cost compared with Europe?

Depending on the piece, having it made in Bali often costs two to three times less than equivalent solid wood furniture bought in Europe — shipping included on a complete project. Made to measure is not a paid extra there: it is simply how the workshops normally work. The easiest way to find out: describe your project and you will receive a free estimate.

What are the lead times, from order to delivery?

Two lead times add up. First, production: 6 to 8 weeks for most pieces, 10 to 12 weeks for a design created especially for you. Then sea freight: around 4 to 5 weeks to Europe, 8 to 10 weeks to North America, the United States, the Caribbean (including St Martin), Costa Rica and South America. Your quote sets out a schedule for your exact destination, and you follow every step with photos sent by our agent.

How can I be sure of the quality without being there?

That is exactly the role of Alain, our agent in Bali, who has lived on the island for 40 years: he selects the workshops, checks the wood's drying before production (the no. 1 cause of cracks in imported furniture), photographs your order in progress, and inspects every piece before packing. Whatever fails the inspection goes back to the workshop.

Full container or shared container: how does it work?

For a complete house or villa, a dedicated container (20 or 40 ft) is the most economical option per cubic metre. For a few pieces, a shared container lets you split a container with other orders. In both cases, every piece is packed individually — kraft paper, foam, cardboard — and braced inside the container, with photos of the loading.

Do you deliver to my country?

We have already delivered to 17 destinations: mainland France, Corsica, Reunion Island, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St Barts, St Martin, Tahiti, Costa Rica, New York, Canada, Australia, the Dominican Republic, Spain, Japan, Singapore and Dakar. If your destination has a port, we can most likely deliver there — just ask, the answer comes quickly.

Who handles customs and import duties?

Export formalities from Indonesia are handled on our side, and we liaise with the freight forwarder. On arrival, duties and taxes depend on your country and on how the goods are classified: your customs broker or freight forwarder confirms the procedure and the exact amounts. The right reflex is to consult them before ordering — we will point you in the right direction.

Does teak really hold up outdoors and in humid climates?

Yes — it is the wood used for boat decks. Naturally rich in oil, teak resists rain, UV and insects without chemical treatment. Outdoors, it develops a silver-grey patina, or keeps its honey colour with a yearly oiling. The essential condition is well-dried wood and solid joinery — precisely what we check in the workshop.

Can I have something made from a photo or a drawing?

It is actually the ideal starting point. A Pinterest photo, a sketch, an architect's drawing with your dimensions: the craftsmen draw the piece, our agent confirms feasibility and the wood, and you approve before production. Any dimensions are possible, including non-standard sizes.

Do you work with professionals (hotels, restaurants, architects)?

Yes, it is a large part of our business: series of identical chairs for a restaurant, daybeds for a beach club, complete furnishing of rental villas. The workshops produce in series with consistent quality, and piece-by-piece inspection before loading really comes into its own at these volumes.

How do I get started, and how does payment work?

Describe your project on WhatsApp or through the contact form: you receive a free, no-obligation estimate. Payment terms are detailed in the quote, with a schedule tied to real milestones (start of production, final inspection, shipping) — you never pay everything up front.
